Ooligan Press Young Editors Project

on March 3, 2010

I submitted my young adult manuscript, Girl on a Thin Wire, to Ooligan Press in November. The story is set in the Pacific Northwest and is about artistic mentorship. I was intrigued by Portland State’s Ooligan’s Press which is run by students and thought the story could be a good fit.

A few weeks ago, I got an e-mail requesting that the manuscript be sent out to their young editor’s group for further review. The manuscript was then sent out to ten sixth and seventh graders and their teachers so they could evaluate whether Ooligan Press might acquire the book.I love this idea! Having both taught middle school and worked often with young writers, I think involving young editors into the process of publishing is fresh and innovative, and I was thrilled to have this manuscript take this journey.
