Young Scientist Challenge

on February 10, 2011

I like to post information about writing contests, grants, and scholarships for young writers. However, today, this Science Competition caught my eye. Good luck to those who enter!

Discovery Education and 3M are sponsoring a science competition for students in grades five to eight. To enter the 2011 Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge, middle school students are encouraged to create a one- to two-minute video that shows a possible new approach to one of the following everyday concerns: The Way We Move, The Way We Keep Ourselves Healthy, or The Way We Make a Difference.

The video should show how the topic impacts the student, his or her family and community, or the global population. The idea must be a new solution to the problems underlying the explored topic. The video should explain “the science, technology, engineering, and/or mathematics behind the innovation,” and show how it could address problems and also have a broader impact locally or globally. Complete rules, submission guidelines, and tips can be found at youngscientistchallenge.com.
