WOW–Women on Writing Fiction

on April 12, 2011

A good writing resource to know about is WOW: Women on Writing Fiction. Each month there is a different topic as well as helpful articles about that topic. For example, this month’s topic is memoir writing and includes a really good article about constructing characters in memoir. Many of these techniques could also be applied to fictional characters. WOW also offers classes and resources for writers.

Four times a year, WOW offers a Flash Fiction Writing Contest. Sometimes there is a prompt, but most of the time, the contest is open to any topic. The Flash Fiction must be between 250-750 words and the cost to enter is $10, or $20 if you want a critique. The judges vary each time. This quarter’s judge is Curtis Browne Agent, Sarah LaPolla.

Sarah keeps a great blog called Glass Cases. Glass Cases is also another good resource to know about if you are writing Flash Fiction. Each Wednesday, Sarah posts a novel or memoir excerpt or a flash fiction piece. I’ve had two pieces published:  Night Crimes which was flash fiction, and Directions which is from my memoir in progress.

You can find all the details on the WOW Spring Flash Fiction Contest Here

Good luck to all who enter!
