Hunger Mountain Writing Contests

Hunger Mountain is the journal of Vermont College. Each year, they offer a handful of writing contests. One of these contests is an annual contest for high school students. Students may submit poetry, fiction, or non-fiction.  Three first place winners receives $250 and publication in Hunger Mountain Journal! Three runners-up receive $100 each. There will be a first place winner and runner up in each category: fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry. This year’s judge is Cynthia Leitch Smith, New York Best Selling author of Tantalized, Eternal, and Blessed.

There is a $10 entry fee. The contest deadline is April 30, 2011.

And, Hunger Mountain also offers a contest for children’s writers. The Katherine Paterson Prize for Young Adult and Children’s Writing. Submit up to 10,000 words of a middle grade or young adult novel, or an entire picture book. Deadline is June 30, and the winner receives $1,000 and publication.
