Hope For Haiti

on September 30, 2011

When I was at the KidlitCon Blogger Conference, I browsed the book table and discovered, Hope for Haiti, which is a picture book story written and illustrated by Jesse Joshua Watson. It is the story of a boy who, after the Haiti Earthquake, is living with his Mom in the soccer stadium. One day, he picks up a ball made of rags and begins to kick it around. For a minute, he forgets about his hunger. Soon, other kids join him, as well as a man who gives the kids a soccer ball signed by Haiti Soccer player, Manno Sanon. The man says, “Don’t thank me, children. Than you. Thank you for reminding me why there is hope for Haiti.”

A proceeds of the book sales goes to support Save the Children’s Haiti Emergency Relief Fund. Also, if you would like to help children who were affected by the January 2010 earthquake in Haiti, check out BUCOSEH which is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting an orphanage/school near Port-au-Prince that was organized by a local Haitian and serves children who survived the January 2010 earthquake.

Here is a  great video with Jesse Joshua Watson talking about the book, Hope For Haiti.
