Spooktacular2013

Happy Halloween! I’m participating in the Spooktacular Giveaway Hop, sponsored by I Am A Reader, Not A Writer.

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. I live on a street with many children and love handing out treats and oohing and ahhing over their costumes. One of my own memories of Halloween is the Pumpkin Box costume.  This was a large box painted orange with black eyes and mouth. I wore it during fourth grade and hated it! All the girls that year were fancy witches and as they paraded into the bathroom to get ready, I had to stay in the classroom with the boys who teased me about my costume. That night, I went home and changed my costume to be a witch–just like everyone else. A few years ago, a boy came to my door wearing a box with the Amazon logo. He grinned at me and said, “I’m an Amazon package.” It reminded me a lot of my pumpkin box costume.

Here is a picture of my pumpkin box costume:

As a part of the Spooktacular Giveaway blog hop, I’m giving away one Kindle ebook copy of my sweet contemporary romance novella, HALLOWEEN LOVE FORTUNE and a $10 Amazon Gift card! To enter all you need to do is leave a comment telling me about a favorite (or least favorite) Halloween costume that you wore–or that you made for a child. Be sure to leave your email address so I can contact the winner. I will announce the winner of the blog hop on November 2, 2014. (US and International entries).

Halloween Love Fortunex

Blurb: Jenny Piercy is excited to help with the Elmheart Hotel’s old-fashion Halloween barn party and enjoys nothing more than working side-by-side long-time friend, Zach Cullver. But, it’s going to take more than a fortune teller’s prediction of true love to bring these two together. Can a coffin and a mummy costume show Zach and Jenny the best romance is found in long-time friendship in this sweet, contemporary romance novella? This is the second story in the Elmheart Hotel sweet contemporary novella series, but you do not have to read the first one to read this one.

A listing of all of the sweet romances in the Elmheart Hotel series can be found here.

We made my sister a bag of jelly beans one year. We took a large clear plastic garbage bag, put in leg holes and arm holes and “tied” the bag around her neck. It was filled with small waterballoon sized balloons as the jelly beans. It was adorable. She was miserable. The bag and balloons acted as a thermal insulator and she was so hot she was literally sweating and it was in the mid 50’s that night. Poor Baby looked cute, but felt miserable.

The Halloween costume that was a favorite and non- favorite was a gorgeous princess costume I made for my then 7 year old daughter. It turned out beautiful, but it was terrible material to sew and kept slipping while I sewed it on my machine. She loved it and played dress up with it for years, so I guess it was worth it. 🙂 ssdawn2002(AT)yahoo(DOT)com

I’ve never worn or made a halloween costume, but a few years ago I went shopping with my mum, gran, aunt and cousin. We were looking for a costume for my cousin, who was about 13 months old at the time, we found her a pumpkin one that could go over her clothes with a hat for the stalk. We put it on her in the shop to see if it would fit, then almost wet ourselves laughing at how funny/cute she looked, as was every other person who walked past!

It’s a tossup for me. I remember being a fairy one year, the first year I really picked out my costume myself. Pretty, shimmery green dress and wings with sparkles. Earlier on, my parents dressed me up as Raggedy Ann. Red yarn wig, face paint to look like the doll, blue dress with white leggings and shirt under to look like the doll’s exposed arms and legs. It was a *really* good costume. (smilesXalumniYcmuYedu, x is @ and the y’s are dots)

I haven’t worn it yet, but this year, I’m dressing up as a zombie mom. I’m pregnant, and I’m gluing a doll’s arms and feet to a shirt and making it look like I have a zombie baby coming out! Might sound gory, but it’ll be fabulous! (I’m a Walking Dead fanatic, so this is my fave!)

  55. Toni Porter says:

My childhood was filled with amazing costumes that my mother sewed for me. A very memorable one, though, was when I was five. She made a mermaid tail out of tulle and lame, and stuffed the tail with polyfill (it was out to the side so I had a range of movement and wouldn’t trip). For the top, she sewed two purple “shells” onto a sweatshirt that matched my skin tone for a shell “bra”. (Hey, we lived above 45 degrees N, warmth had to be a consideration.) In my hair, she sprayed red, one-wash hair color, and sparkles.

I got so much candy that year….

  59. Elizabeth says:

My favorite AND least favorite costume was the year that my siblings and friends all dressed up as a band of pirates, and I went as their “captive maiden.” We rehearsed this whole skit where they would do their AARRRRGH yell and I would shriek in fright. We were going to do this at each house instead of saying “trick or treat.” Well, most people kind of freaked out when we started the skit on their front porches. It made me feel embarrassed, and I wanted to go home early or just change into a pirate costume like the rest of my friends. We ended up dropping the skit, and the rest of the night was fine. I just always remember that feeling of thinking we had done something creative and fun, and having no one really understand what we were doing. Fifteen years later, I’d say maybe we could have saved it for a different venue rather than people’s front porches…but our creativity was still awesome!
